Photographs taken: 6/25/15

We recently moved to the Bay Area and I’ve always wanted to try some photography.  I love landscape and architecture I’ve come to the right place for both.  The lighting and atmospherics here are brilliant.  I hope to capture some of the natural brilliance in my photographs.  I bought myself a Nikon D3300 and away I go.  I hope to track my progress here and I’ll use this journal to help keep me ‘focused’.

These are a few of my first shots taken from our balcony.  I’m still in point-and-shoot mode and these were taken with the only lens I have, the AF-S DX Nikkor 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR II.  I have done some slight edits with Adobe Lightroom even though I’m not exactly sure what I’m doing with the program or the camera.

The Changing Light
The changing light
at San Francisco
is none of your East Coast light
none of your
pearly light of Paris
The light of San Francisco
is a sea light
an island light
And the light of fog
blanketing the hills
drifting in at night
through the Golden Gate
to lie on the city at dawn
And then the halcyon late mornings
after the fog burns off
and the sun paints white houses
with the sea light of Greece
with sharp clean shadows
making the town look like
it had just been painted

But the wind comes up at four o’clock
sweeping the hills

And then the veil of light of early evening

And then another scrim
when the new night fog
floats in
And in that vale of light
the city drifts
anchorless upon the ocean
